Good morning and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the men’s soccer office as the boys finish up their final exams this week. Our graduating seniors are also doing the rounds to say their farewells and ensure that they finish the semester strong. It is always a little bitter-sweet to say goodbye to such a special senior group and we all wish them the very best as they go onto the next chapters of their lives away from SU. Good luck boys, stay in touch, and hope to see you in the fall!
As the semester winds down I would like to thank those individuals who came back to campus last weekend and made our alumni weekend such a memorable event. It was fantastic to have the chance to catch up with so many of our former players and supporters of the program. Our alumni game was a magnificent 11-9 victory for the old timers, although I should thank our current squad for their patience with a slightly inconsistent referee (me) who perhaps stretched the interpretation of both the offside rule and the number of players allowed on the field at the conclusion of the game. (It became the ultimate tactical implementation of parking the bus by simply ensuring that the bus became bigger through the addition of more players) Nevertheless it was a hard fought victory and spirits were indeed very high as many of us headed to the golf course.
Our Henry E. Glies Orange Open has become an integral part of our soccer calendar and this year we marked the 20th Anniversary of this special event. Sixty-four golfers teed it up and we all had a blast out on the course. There is nothing better than spending the afternoon with family, friends and former SU soccer players. I would like to thank The Pompey Club for their terrific hospitality and a HUGE shout out to Dan and Kyle Pribula who organized and directed a fantastic event for us. The foursome of Thousand, Centollela, Tessier and Ilacqua were crowned 2012 Champions with a score of nine under par. Well done to our victors and at the other end of the spectrum Coach Phil Wheddon and Coach Mike Miller's foursome secured the “Most Honest Award”. Such an award is clearly a true indicator of the politically correct environment in which we all now live. In my day, we would have said that this group finished dead last but apparently I am not allowed to project such negativity when commenting upon their incompetence on the golf course.
It really was a terrific weekend and I hope that you will be able to take a look at some of the pictures from last weekend’s event.
This week we all enjoyed the ‘CuseAwards held here on campus and it is a great way for all of our SU Athletes to come together and celebrate individual and collective success achieved throughout the year. It is truly remarkable to see the array of talented student-athletes that we have here on campus and I would like to congratulate all of our SU student-athletes for their success in the classroom and out on the field, court, ice, water and track. I would also like to congratulate our men’s soccer team who were awarded the 2012 ‘Cuse Cares Award for recognition of the work that they have done this year in the local community. I am very proud of the work that the boys have done this year and also wanted to announce our own Men's Soccer Award Winners here.
Well that about does it for now and I would like to thank you for your continued support. I look forward to talking with you again very soon and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I just wanted to provide a quick update from the men’s soccer office. With no game this weekend, our training program took on a slightly different approach as players jostled for final positions on our Spring Soccer Leader Board. Throughout the entire spring semester the boys have been competing against one another both on and off the soccer field. With still everything to play for the title of “SU Soccer Champion” has gone down to the very last week.
In homage to the 2012 Summer Olympics the boys were split into five groups to compete in our own SU Soccer Olympic Decathlon. Coach Masalin and Big Dan joined Dan Summers and Nick Roydhouse to compete against the younger players in a variety of competitions: rowing, bench, 2K, the “Quarter Back”, an obstacle course, field goals, corn hole, dodge ball, a homerun derby and soccer tennis. Over three days of ‘intense’, fun competition the team of Ryan Jones, Tyler Hilliard, Brandon Albert and Chris Makowski emerged as SU Soccer Olympic Champions! Well done boys and a big thank you to Dan and Jukka for organizing (and competing) in all the activities. It was a great time and I only hope that this summer’s spectacle in London is half as entertaining as our SU Soccer Olympics.
Final preparations are taking place for this weekend's Alumni weekend and our 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open. I hope that many of our alums and soccer supporters will be able to join us here on campus for this special weekend and we certainly will not be deterred by the weather.
A "Soccer Social" will be held at Faegan's Pub at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27 and all of our alums and soccer supporters are welcome. (If you are thinking about stopping by on Friday evening to join the coaching staff please email Mike Miller at mbmill04@syr.edu)
Our annual Alumni Soccer match will kick-off at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning and has been moved to Manley Field House. Those interested in having a kick about with our guys please meet at 9:30 a.m. at Manley and we can use our locker rooms to change and shower. There will be plenty of fluids and ice available and qualified athletic trainers will be on call to assist with ageing bodies!
Our 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open will tee off at 1:30 p.m. at The Pompey Club. (Registration and lunch will start at 12:30 p.m.) For directions please click here.
I look forward to speaking to you again very soon and perhaps seeing some of you this weekend on campus or at the golf course. Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse men’s soccer office. The boys wrapped up their spring campaign this past weekend in Albany, N.Y. with three 45 minute games. The boys competed well and remained undefeated throughout the tournament with goals from Louis Clark (2) and Grant Chong (1). The boys and I wanted to thank Mrs. Smith for providing food and refreshments after our game. A very big thank you to Andrea and our SU parents who continue to generously support our team both here on campus and when we are on the road. Thank you and your support really makes a difference.
I also wanted to personally thank the guys for their commitment and passion during the past few months as we continue to work towards our goals for the fall. We realize that we are still very much a work in progress but we have showed signs this Spring of our potential to compete at a very high level. I know that this group of young men takes tremendous pride in representing Syracuse University. Each student-athlete is fully prepared to commit to the necessary steps required to move forward as a program. Roll on the Fall!

At this time we have 60 golfers confirmed for our event and it should be a terrific day. We are still able to accept a couple more foursomes and individual golfers so please drop me an email at ismcinty@syr.edu if you would like to join the festivities. A functioning golf game is not a requirement to participate!
I look forward to speaking to you again very soon and perhaps seeing some of you this weekend on campus or at the golf course. Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the men’s soccer office. I wanted to thank those supporters who cheered on the boys this past weekend both here on campus and during our games at Herkimer County Community College. We truly appreciate your commitment and your passion to follow the team.
We played a lot of soccer this past weekend against some good opposition and certainly learned a lot about our young squad. As we continue to evolve as a team it is great to have the chance to match-up with other programs and a good weekend was highlighted by a 4-0 victory against Monmouth University at the SU Soccer Stadium. Goals from Lars Muller, Louis Clark, Mawuena Agbossoumonde, and a Monmouth own goal was the reward for an excellent performance.
The boys are now preparing for another three games on Saturday, April 21st during the Blackwatch Nike Friendlies and Spring College Cup at Gavin Park in Wilton, N.Y.. Our first game starts at 11:00 a.m. against Colgate University and I hope to see some of our supporters out at the fields.
We are also excited to welcome many of our former players and supporters back to campus on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 for our Alumni Weekend and the 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open It should be a tremendous weekend and I look forward to having the opportunity to see many of you back in town. There is still time to sign up for the golf or support this fantastic event. For further information please send me an e-mail.
Well that about does it for now and I hope that you will have the chance to take a glance at today’s exciting Champions League match-up between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. There should be plenty of fireworks during this game with both teams loaded with talent from top to bottom. Enjoy the game if you get the chance!
Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse men’s soccer office. The boys have just worked hard and finished a good session with Big Dan Pribula and our coaching staff. Spirits in the camp are very high and we are preparing for a busy weekend and an exciting last few weeks of our spring season.
On Saturday, we welcome Monmouth University to the SU Soccer Stadium for an 11:00 a.m. kick-off. Coach McCourt’s Monmouth side will be a stern test and have secured the NEC title in each of the past seven years. It should be a great chance for us to see how far we have progressed this spring.
On Sunday, we travel to Herkimer County Community College to compete against Herkimer and Le Moyne College. It is always fun to play against our good friends and neighbors. Pepe Aragon’s talented squad is coming off a National Championship season and Coach Bonus has assembled another talented team. This weekend will provide us an opportunity to observe the performances of the entire squad and reward each player for their hard work and commitment in practice. For more information on the upcoming weekend, please click here.
I would like to thank those fans who made the drive down to Rochester to watch the boys take on the Rochester Rhinos form the USL. It was a very productive venture and the boys will take a tremendous amount of confidence from an outstanding performance against a professional team. Although we would eventually fell short, 2-1, we were very unfortunate not to tie everything up towards the end of the contest. We played some of our best soccer of the year and it is now important that we build upon this excellent performance. For more information on the game please read the Rochester Rhinos game story here.
We are also preparing for our Alumni weekend on campus and our 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open. I hope that many of our alums and soccer supporters will be able to join us on campus for this special weekend on April 27 and 28.
A “Soccer Social” will be held at Faegan's Pub at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27 and all of our alums and soccer supporters are welcome. I hope that you will be able to partake in the festivities and join us here in town. I feel that my own preparation for our golf tournament is progressing rather well. I watched some of the Masters this past weekend and took much comfort in the fact that Bubba Watson and I have both never received any form of coaching to improve our golf games. My wife tried to burst my bubble by suggestion that this year’s Masters Champion actual plays (and therefore practices) golf more than once every other year! I have decided not to be influenced by such negativity and I remain quite upbeat about my own chances to “shine” during our event and contribute towards my foursome’s success!
I look forward to speaking to you again very soon and perhaps seeing some of you this weekend out at our games. Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide a quick update from the SU men’s soccer office. We just completed a light practice on campus as we prepare for our trip tomorrow to take on Penn State. The boys are in great spirits and they are anxious to kick-off at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. The spring season is a real opportunity for our young squad to mature and evolve as a team. It should be an exciting match and we should learn a great deal from the competition.
Tomorrow we will start the game with Andrew Coughlin in goal and a back four of Chris Makowski, Jordan Murrell, Skylar Thomas, and Ryan Tessler. In the midfield, we will start with Mawuena Agbossoumonde, Nick Perea, Mark Brode, and Ted Cribley with Grant Chong and Lars Muller playing in more advanced positions. We will also be travelling with Matt Stith, Brandon Albert, Nick Bibbs, Hugh Pringle, Ryan Jones, and Evans Asiamah who will provide us additional options to utilize throughout the match.
I hope to see some of our supporters in Pennsylvania tomorrow. If the weather co-operates, we will be playing on Jeffrey Field or right behind their soccer stadium on the Penn State soccer training complex.
I also wanted to remind everyone that we will be hosting the 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open on Saturday, April 28th. This is a fantastic event and one of my favorite days of the year. It is an opportunity for our SU Alums, fans and Friends of Soccer to all get together and have some fun.
This year we will be teeing it up at The Pompey Club with a 1:30 p.m. shot gun start. Please let me know if you have any questions about this fantastic event. More information will be provided next week with online registration available.
A $100.00 donation to the Syracuse University Men’s Soccer Head Coach’s fund covers the cost of The Pompey Club greens fees, cart and range. Each golfer will also receive lunch prior to teeing off and a steak dinner at the conclusion of the round. All refreshments will be covered on the course and throughout dinner. It should be a terrific day and I hope to see many of our alums, fans and Friends of SU soccer out on the course.
Well that about does it for now and we have a couple of local games to watch this afternoon to keep an eye on some of our talented local youth players. Thank you for your continued support of our program and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide a quick update from the Syracuse men’s soccer office. Our campus has been totally engrossed in the magnificent efforts of our men’s basketball team this season and I would like to congratulate Coach Boeheim and his program for a fantastic year on the court. We have all watched with tremendous pride as SU made a run at another National Championship. Although last night the boys fell one step shy of the Final Four in New Orleans, we have all enjoyed watching this team play throughout this remarkable season.
Well done boys and a special word of thanks to graduating seniors Kris Joseph and Scoop Jardine who have represented Syracuse University with a tremendous amount of poise and class. You have inspired us all through your leadership and excellence on the court. Even my five year old daughter has been totally engrossed in the season and asked this morning if we could re-decorate our dining room with posters of Scoop!
All of our SU sports teams are enjoying success this spring with our women’s basketball team reaching the Final Four of the WNIT and Coach Gait’s ladies currently being ranked No. 2 in the nation. Congratulations to all of our SU student-athletes.
Our own boys are itching to start competing themselves and have the opportunity to represent Syracuse University this Spring campaign. We are all excited to open up next Sunday, April 1 against a strong Penn State team that reached the 2011 Big Ten Championship game. For those fans interested in supporting the boys next weekend we kick off at 3:00 p.m. at State College, Pa. Hope to see some of you out on the road.
I would also like to congratulate two of our newest additions to the program who have been called up to the US U18 National Team camp in Carson, Calif. Both Alex Bono (Baldwinsville, NY) and Stefanos Stamoulacatos (Camillus, NY) will be joining us here on campus this Fall and they will be training with the US National Team staff this week at the Home Depot Center as they continue their soccer education. Well done boys and good luck in California.
And finally I just wanted to remind everyone that we will be hosting the 20th Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open on Saturday, April 28th. This is a fantastic event and one of my favorite days of the year. It is an opportunity for our SU Alums, fans and Friends of Soccer to all get together and have some fun. (There will be a wide range of golfing “ability” on display and it is a great excuse to get outside together.) This year we will be teeing it up at The Pompey Club with a 1:30 p.m. shot gun start. Please join us here on April 28th and let us know your foursomes as quickly as possible. I will be sending out additional information early this week and please let me know if you have any specific questions.
Well that about does it for now. Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good morning and I wanted to provide a quick update from our Syracuse Men’s Soccer Office. The boys are really working hard and everyone is looking forward to our approaching 2012 spring schedule. We should be really tested this spring with quality games against Penn State, Rochester Rhinos (USL Professional), Monmouth, Le Moyne and Herkimer County Community College. We will also be participating in the Blackwatch, NY tournament and we are looking to finalize a game against an international opponent during our Alumni Weekend.
The spring season is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn a great deal about our squad of players and work on specific areas of play that will benefit us in the fall. The boys have responded magnificently to the demands placed upon them so far this spring. We look forward to having the chance to test ourselves against outstanding college teams and an established professional organization.
Many of our alums have enquired about our 2012 Alumni Weekend that will be held Friday, April 27th – Sunday, April 29th. Exact details will be finalized over the next week or so and I will pass on all the pertinent information. There will be a “social gathering” for those interested alums and supporters who arrive in town on Friday evening. On the morning of Saturday, April 28th there will be an alumni game that will be followed with our traditional Henry E. Glies Orange Open. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of this special event and I hope that many of our alums and friends of the program will be able to tee it up with us. I would like to encourage all of our soccer supporters and Friends of SU Soccer to come out and enjoy the festivities throughout this fun weekend.
Well that about does it for now and back to work. Thank you for your continued support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good afternoon and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse men’s soccer office (well couch really) on this Super Bowl Sunday. It has already been a rather good day with a couple of exciting “football” matches in the book. Who said that an athletic contest without an actual winner cannot be a magnificent spectacle? (Manchester United drew 3-3 with Chelsea earlier today in an extremely dramatic encounter.) We have now changed gears in the McIntyre household and Jenn and Lyla are both dressed in full NY Giants attire and munchies have been prepared. Still three more hours of pre-game coverage… I only hope that the commercials are up to snuff!
I wanted to take this opportunity to announce five new additions to our 2012 SU recruiting class who join Noah Ryhnhart and Morgan Smith who are both already enrolled at Syracuse. Please join me in welcoming Anthony Asante (Bronx, NY), Alex Bono (Baldwinsville, NY), Harrison Kendall (Warbeth, PA), Stefanos Stamoulacatos (Camillius, NY), and Jordan Vale (Auckland, New Zealand) to our SU soccer family. For more information, please click here. This is a talented group who will complement our current squad and each member of this class will take a real pride in representing Syracuse University.
Well, I had better get back to our Super Bowl pre-game festivities because there surely should be a limit to the amount of chips and dip a four-year old consumes in one serving. The wife will be pleading for a Giants win tonight and I will be cheering on Coach Coughlin, as a former SU athlete. Enjoy the Super Bowl, thank you for your continued support, and please keep cheering on the boys!

Good evening and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse men’s soccer office. The boys practiced in the Carrier Dome this afternoon with a high-tempo inter-squad match. It was great to see the boys back out on the pitch, even if it was in a 50,000 seated indoor facility. We are very fortunate to have the ability to play/practice in such a fantastic environment and the boys clearly enjoyed the opportunity this afternoon. A lively, entertaining match ended with a 3-2 victory for the Orange team through goals from Hugh Pringle, Grant Chong, and Nick Roydhouse. Lars Muller’s two goals for the Blue team were, ultimately, not enough to wrestle the impetus away from an Orange squad who were good value for the first "Dome win" of the spring.
In other news I am very excited to be able to announce that Jeremy Vuolo recently signed with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. For more information, please click here. Vuolo was our captain for the 2010 campaign and has been rewarded with a MLS contract after an excellent year playing for AC Oulo in Finland. He has already joined his new teammates as they prepare for a training camp in Mexico and I look forward to sharing further updates with you in the near future. Everyone associated with our program wishes JV all the very best for the upcoming MLS campaign with the New York Red Bulls. It should be an interesting new locker room for Jeremy when Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez return to pre-season camp in New York!
Well that about does it for now and it is time to head home. Thank you for your continued support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!

I hope all is well and I just wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse soccer office. The boys have arrived back on campus and it is great to have the group back together. Campus was a little too quite without them!
As always the boys “embraced” the physical testing supervised by Big Dan Pribula during the past two days. Overall, the coaching staff has been quite pleased with the results and the squad has returned in good shape as we prepare for an important 2012 campaign. Some of our freshmen student-athletes have made great strides since pre-season camp in August and the results that we are observing are a credit to their individual commitment and drive. On Day 1 of testing, Andrew Coughlin, Chris Makowski, and Matt Stith were the top overall performers when combining results from our 30m, 2K and weight room testing. This morning, Louis Clark, Makowski, Grant Chong, and Ryan Tessler excelled during our Muscle Endurance Test, League Test and final 2K. Today was a tough grind but the boys rose to the challenge and they are all excited to play tomorrow.
During the spring season we always implement the “SU Soccer Leader Board” and our players are awarded points for both successes on the playing field and successes in the classroom. Results from every competitive exercise, every workout and each individual training match are recorded to document the impact (effect) that each player has on our program. We have a very competitive group of young men and they take tremendous pride in seeing their name at the top of the Leader board. At this very early stage of the season our top three performers are: Coughlin, Makowski, and Tessler. I will keep you updated as the competition heats up!
I should also take this opportunity to congratulate our sophomore class who triumphed in our Fall Academic Challenge. Each class was challenged to secure the highest group GPA and our sophomore class took home the trophy with their collective 3.395 GPA. Well done boys!
And finally I would like to take this opportunity to welcome two young men into our SU Soccer program. Both Morgan Smith (Saratoga, NY) and Noah Ryhnhart (Albany, NY) graduated in December from their high schools to allow them to enroll early at Syracuse University. Smith and Rhynhart are quality young men who will be terrific additions to our program and it is a great opportunity for them to train with us this Spring season. I know that you will join me in welcoming Morgan and Noah into our soccer family and I will update you on the remaining members of our 2012 recruiting class in early February.
Well that about does it for now and I look forward to chatting again soon. Thank you for your continued support and please keep cheering on the boys!
