Syracuse vs. Providence - Coach Boeheim Quotes
Syracusevs. Providence
January 14, 2012
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim
“Obviously, without Vincent Council they are a different team. He is such a tremendous player. I thought they gave everything they could and hung in there with us. We started a little slow offensively. We started to move the ball a little better, hit a couple of shots. We haven’t been shooting very well from the three-point line.
In the second half, I thought, offensively, we attacked better, going inside and getting some easy baskets. We got this win and we have to get ready for Monday night.”
How effective was the press defense?
“It speeded it up a little bit. We got a couple turnovers out of it and did speed them up a little bit. I think it got us going a little bit.”
How was the team able to force turnovers?
“They were turning it over the whole first half. They had 16 in the first half. I don’t know if we forced them or not.”
How did Scoop Jardine’s play change after the break?
“Scoop played really well tonight. He got the ball to people. I thought he was exceptional.”
What kind of focus does it take to win your first 19 games?
“The same focus it takes to win your first one, the exact same focus. We are just trying to get ready for the next game, that’s all we thought about and that’s what we are going to keep doing. That’s the only way to approach basketball games. We have to get ready or we are going to get beat. We just have to get ready every night. Watching games today, a couple of teams were not ready and they got beat. It’s as simple as that.”
Does this team prepare any differently than any other team you’ve coached?
“No, I don’t think so. We try to prepare them the same way every year. It’s a good group, they work hard. 23 assists tonight, they look for each other.”
