Mr. Robert S. Savage (Basketball)

Robert Savage earned three basketball letters at Syracuse University. He served as team captain during his senior season. In 1950, he was the first SU player drafted when the Syracuse Nationals selected him in the ninth round of the NBA Draft. Savage graduated in 1950 with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and Alpha Chi Sigma while at SU. In 1957, Savage earned his MBA from Harvard in manufacturing and general management.
After graduation, Savage worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he managed the adhesives and coating department. In 1969, he left Goodyear to become the Vice President of Doric Corporation in Oklahoma City. He would later serve stints as senior vice president of the Processing Division at Iowa Beef Processors and executive vice president of operations at Anta Corporation. In 1990, Savage opened Savco LTD, a privately owned plastic packaging company in Charlotte, N.C and sold the business in 2000. Savage is a member of the Varsity Club and a charter member of the Dave Bing Fund.
