Exhibition vs. Pace
“We had really good defensive movement and it got our offense going. We passed the ball and took care of the ball very well in the first half. We made a lot of good offensive plays and we shot the ball well.”
“In the second half we lost our defense and intensity a little bit and when you do that you're going to give up open shots. Overall, we gave everybody a chance to get out on the court and I think it went well. It was a good first step for us. We will go back and work a couple days in practice.”
“Trevor Cooney should be able to practice tomorrow, for the first time. He has done some light shooting. He should be ready to play a little bit on Sunday, hopefully.”
How did you think DeJuan looked on defense at the forward spot?
“I think he's learned and I think he did a good job. I think Baye showed experience in there -- he's a very good defensive center in there. He's catching the ball better and finishing better on offense. I think he's made big steps there. But, I thought the three big guys played well.”
“James (Southerland) did a pretty good job at the guard spot, defensively. If he gets some good shots he's going to make them. I think overall, CJ (Fair) made a couple threes -- he's been shooting the ball well in practice. Michael (Carter-Williams) has not been shooting it very well, but he shot well today. It was a good overall first game. A lot better than some we've had.
Can you speak on Jerami Grant? You talked about Coleman, but how did Grant look?
He was active. He works hard. He's brought in a lot of things. We've thrown a lot of things at him, but he's been good. He's good defensively. He's a good rebounder. I think he did a nice job out there.
Is James (Southerland) at guard something that you can see when Trevor's (Cooney) back?
We only have three guards, so you need more than that. We are going to need another guard sometimes. He'll play some there and obviously some at forward.
