Bernie Fine, 1967 (Basketball Manager)

Bernie Fine is a 1967 graduate of Syracuse with a Bachelor of Science in personnel and industrial relations. While a student at SU he earned a varsity letter as the basketball manager from 1963 – 67, was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha and president of the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. Today we know Bernie Fine as Coach Fine. Fine has worked the Syracuse sidelines as an assistant coach since 1976. Since then the Orangemen have appeared in the NCAA tournament 17 times, advancing to the championship game in 1987 and 1996, and the NIT twice. Fine coached the women’s U.S. Maccabe team to the gold medal in Israel in 1985, and the U.S. men’s team to the silver medal in the 1993 games. He has worked throughout the community with such organizations as the Make a Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Camp Good Days and the Syracuse Boys Club. He is a member of the Varsity Club and an active member of the Hardwood Fund Board of Directors. Fine and his wife, Laurie, have three children, David, Sheila and Sara.
