Syracuse vs. High Point
Friday, December 20, 2013
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Baye Keita, Senior, Center
Was High Point extending the shot clock in the first half?
“The first half they hit a couple buzzer-beaters. At the end they got an offensive rebound and put it back. It was tough for us to guard, they were taking their time. They were taking their shots with 10 or five seconds left on the shot clock. So we shortened their court and put the pressure on and made them take tough shots.”
How much are you looking forward to the break between games?
“It’s going to be great. It’s been a long summer for us. We’ve been together since this summer. The trip to Canada was great for us. I think that trip helped us for these games now. We’ve had some tough situations, so we just dig deep. We can win it all. We’re going to take these couple days and come back and work more because we’ve got a tough game coming up and we’ve got to get ready for that.”
Tyler Ennis, Freshman, Guard
How did the defense pick up in the second half?
“Our offense comes from our defense. We like to get out and run. If we’re not getting stops, we’re not getting out into transition. We can score, but if we’re not getting stops we’re not going to win.”
What started the run?
“Rebounding. They were running the clock down a little bit. When they did shoot we wanted to get the rebound and run as fast as possible. I thought our forwards did a great job rebounding and starting the fast break.”
Jerami Grant, Sophomore, Forward
Are you okay with your role of coming off the bench?
“Yes definitely. It’s great coming off of the bench and being able to support the team and playing as many minutes as I , which is definitely a plus.”
What was it like seeing Trevor Cooney hit all of those three’s?
“It was great. I try to shoot well and it always expands our offense. Whenever he is shooting well we have more driving lanes.”
Trevor Cooney, Redshirt Sophomore, Guard
Where are you mentally?
“I am feeling pretty good. You have good guys like Tyler (Ennis) who find you and then you have guys like C.J. (Fair) and Jerami (Grant), who demand double teams and that helps. You find an open spot and just move your feet.”
What has Tyler (Ennis) been able to do to make you loosen up?
“He has just been great at what he does. He runs the team well and gets the team in transition and pushes it. He is always going to make the right play.”
