Student-Athlete Quotes - Georgetown
Syracuse vs. Georgetown

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y
Student Athlete Quotes
Michael Carter-Williams, Sophomore Guard
Do you think early in the game you guys were a little too antsy, and maybe started to take some of the longer threes?
“No, not really. I can’t really recall it. I know we were excited for the game. It was not our best game.”
How tough is it to now flip around and go play at Marquette on Monday? Are you glad you have a chance to get right back out there?
“I think we’re happy we get to play on Monday, to get back on the board, and hopefully come up with a win. It’s going to be a tough game at Marquette.”
Did this one hurt a little more today?
“Yes, definitely. Every loss hurts. They beat us on our home court, and it is the first time we have lost at home in a long time. It definitely hurts.”
Brandon Triche, Senior Guard
Two weeks from today you get these guys again, down at their place. Is there a little extra motivation to return the favor when you go down there?
“Yes, definitely. You always want to beat the teams that beat you. The biggest thing is just getting better. We want to win the BIG EAST conference championship, especially since we’re leaving this year, going to the ACC. After beating us in front of our crowd, we want to return the favor.”
Did you guys want to win this game with Carmelo Anthony in the crowd, and retiring his jersey? Was that added to it?
“No, we want to win every game. We could have four people at the game, and we would want to win that game. I think the crowd did excite us, and pumped us up a little bit. I think it did add a little bit more motivation, but not much.”
At what point do you think the game sort of got away from you guys?
“I think once Otto Porter came for a little inside screen and he hit a long two-pointer. Once that happened, that next play they drove down the base line, passed into the corner, and hit another three. Then they did the same thing, drove down the base line, Otto Porter got it and hit another three. That’s when they got a seven- to nine- point lead. With a team that is really tough defensively, that nine-point lead is like 18 points.”
C.J Fair, Junior Forward
Coach and Brandon (Triche) said the three pointers hurt you guys, and sometimes when you were not really open some of the guys forced it. You were not one of the guys to take a lot of threes -- What was going through your mind as you saw your teammates taking threes?
“It is what is it is sometimes. If you are a confident three-point shooter, and you have a little space, then you are going to shoot it no matter where you are at on the court. I think James (Southerland) made a deep three, and I guess that encouraged him to shoot a couple more.”
You played pretty well in terms of shooting percentage. Were you frustrated you did not get more touches this time?
“It is hard. Everybody wants the ball more. It is hard to get the ball out frequently against the zone they were playing. They showed a lot of attention to me, because for our zone offenses we want to get it inside out. Sometimes it is hard to get it inside, and we kind of forced some stuff.”
You guys have seen a lot of zones this year -- was Georgetown’s the best?
“I think they played the zone well today. They played really solid defense, and they did not let us get second-chance points.”
Talk about the tough turnaround with Marquette on Monday.
“Marquette is a tough team. We have to be ready to play. They’re one of the top teams in the BIG EAST so we have to come ready to play. We can not afford to lose any more games.”
Can you talk about the shooting struggles? Was there too much excitement or just trying too much?
“Sometimes you try too hard. When you are down points, and time is winding down, you try to make that play to get us going, but it just does not work out.”
