Student-Athlete Quotes - Louisville
Syracuse vs. Louisville
March 2, 2013
Carrier Dome / Syracuse, N.Y.
Brandon Triche, Senior Guard
What do you think has been the reason for the tough losses the last three games?
“We just have to finish games. A lot of it is on me. I just need to take care of the ball and make all the right plays. We were doing that early. That’s why we were winning games, but now we’re not.”
Coach (Boeheim) said the reason for the slump has been because of trying too hard. Do you think it’s that or bad decisions?
“A mix of both. We’re almost in desperation mode. You know you have to win. And we should be winning, but it might just take one win for us to get a few more going.”
How disappointing is it as a four-year starter to be making some of these turnovers?
“It’s very disappointing because it is out of my character. If I was used to making turnovers and things like that then I really wouldn’t think too much of it. When it’s out of your character, it hurts.”
James Southerland, Senior Forward
Do you think struggles with shooting the ball is the main cause of the team’s lack of success recently?
“No, not really. We didn’t really shoot the ball well. It was still a close game. We had the lead. We just lost it at the end. I feel like shooting the ball definitely helps any team, but at the same time there are still other mistakes that if we didn’t make we could pull out the win.”
There have been a few things that have cost you guys games this season, but turnovers have never been one. Is that kind of what happens to teams when things are not going well?
“I just feel like it has got to be a mentality. When we have the ball we are not going to lose it. We are going to make the best opportunity, and unfortunately we had some tough turnovers at the end of the game that could’ve definitely changed the outcome.”
One of the things Coach (Boeheim) said in the press room is that a lot of the teams in the top 10 have lost two, maybe even three games in a row. Is it just something that has happened to the good teams this year. Has that been something you guys have been talking about?
“Well, we just want to win every game we play and we’re capable of winning every game that we play. I remember UConn had a tough go ‘round and they won a championship when Kemba (Walker) was there. This is something that teams go through. I feel like the best thing about it is it’s better to go through it now than in the tournament because you only have one chance to lose.”
Michael Carter-Williams, Sophomore Guard
Was shot selection an issue with some of the shots you took at the end of the game?
“I’m not sure. For the most part, we had some good looks. We didn’t shoot the ball great. We just need to shoot the ball better.”
Coach (Boeheim) said that a lot of the team in the top 10 have lost two, but some have lost three in a row. He said he still likes this team. Is that something he tried to remind you guys of after the game?
“I think Coach (Boeheim) still believes in us even though we lost three in a row. I believe in us. I believe we can play well when we play our game. I think we can beat anybody. All these games were close that we lost and we just need to be more productive down the stretch like I said. We are a very good team when we play our game and play smart.”
