Full time Enrollment and Certification Reminders for Competition and Aid
Bylaw 14.1.7.1 (Full-Time Enrollment – Requirement for Practice) requires that a student-athlete be enrolled in a full-time program of studies leading to a baccalaureate or equivalent degree. A student-athlete must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in a given semester in order to be considered full-time.
In addition, NCAA Bylaw 14.1.7.1.5 (Exception – Practice during the First Week of Class) permits a student-athlete to practice, but not compete, during the institution’s first five days of classes if the student-athlete is enrolled in less than a minimum full-time program of studies, provided the student-athlete is otherwise eligible under SU, Atlantic Coast Conference, and NCAA requirements.
There is an additional exception to the full-time enrollment requirement if the student-athlete is in their final semester. Bylaw 14.1.7.1.3 (Exception – Final Semester) permits a student-athlete with eligibility remaining to participate in organized practice sessions and competition while enrolled in less than a minimum full-time program of studies, so long as the student-athlete is enrolled in the final semester of the baccalaureate program and the institution certifies that the student-athlete is taking the necessary courses in order to complete their degree requirements.
Therefore, student-athletes approaching their final semester of enrollment that will carry a less than full-time time program of studies must provide the OAC with a letter from their home college no later than the first day (August 26, 2013/January 13, 2014) of their final semester indicating the following:
-What degree they are pursuing in their home college;
