Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Louisiana Tech
December 14, 2014
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Trevor Cooney, Redshirt Junior, Guard
What did coach say to you, despite the win?
“I know he is happy with the win, but he is looking at the bigger picture and he wants us to improve and the game should not have been that close. They are a pretty good team but we made the same mistakes and we can’t make those anymore.”
In your mind, where is the team at right now?
“We had a good week at practice and then we made the same mistakes, but we made some good plays and we were able to take the lead. We were up 10 with six minutes left to go and we had two turnovers. We have to learn from them and it feels good to get away with the win, but I mean we have to look at the big picture.”
Have you taken Kaleb Joseph under your wing and if so can you talk about that mentoring process?
“Absolutely. I just try to be a good support system. Playing the guard position, I know what coach wants and I am going to go to him no matter what happens, whether it’s a high five or ‘keep it up’ or ‘pick it up’ or anything. I’m here for my guys no matter what.”
Tyler Roberson, Sophomore, Forward
What’s your method and mind set when going for rebounds?
“I think it’s just a mentality like every rebound is good and I just try and go after every shot not thinking it’s going in. To me a rebound is better than a miss and just go after it like every shot is going to be a miss.”
Given the injuries you had to fight for after the last few days, how nice was it to come back like you did today and have the game you had?
“It was a good confidence builder and I’m looking forward to building on it. Play one game at a time.”
Did coach mention that defensive rebounding has been an issue for Louisiana Tech? Did you guys put any extra stress on crashing the boards?
“It was the same. I think we just went after it as a team and good things happened from it.”
Did you feel any extra pressure to perform with Chris McCullough and Rakeem Christmas in foul trouble?
“Not really. I knew once they were in foul trouble I was going to have to play extra minutes and I just kept the energy up and played hard while they were in foul trouble.”
