Syracuse Student Athlete Quotes
Rakeem Christmas, Senior, Center
Was it the type of thing where as the game is going on you’re realizing you’re putting up points or you don't even really think about it because of the score?
“You don't really think about it. I’m just out there helping my teammates by going out there and being aggressive. Trying to give it my all.”
How important was the win tonight for the team?
“It was very important. These wins carry on into other games. The games are starting to get harder and harder so we need all these wins that we can get.”
How important is the sense of urgency on the court, especially in the second half and into overtime?
“It is a lot of urgency. We just had to keep our composure, which we did. We just kept playing our defense, started making them take tough shots. We started going off offensively.”
Trevor Cooney, Redshirt Junior, Guard
How much easier does it make your job when he (Rakeem Christmas) goes for 35 points like that?
“It is a lot easier. People are going to start double teaming and triple teaming him and they did that tonight, but he was able to score off of it. He found guys in good spots. He was unbelievable tonight.”
Can you talk about Michael Gbinije’s tale of two halves tonight?
“We need Mike. We need Mike to score, we need Mike to do what he can do. In the first half, he just wasn't as aggressive as he can be and needs to be. In the second half, he showed us who he really is. I’m just really proud of him how he came out in the second half and overtime.”
Can you talk about what Ron (Patterson) brings to the team?
“Ron is long, athletic and he can cover his spots. It’s good to play with a guy like that in a 2-3 zone because he just covers so much space.”
