Student-Athlete Quotes Elon
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs Elon
November 21, 2015
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Michael Gbinije, Graduate, Guard
What is your overall assessment of this game?
“My overall assessment is it was a close game. We could have played better, but a win is a win and we’ll take it. We need to move forward and learn from the mistakes we made and move forward”.
As you were sitting out in those last eight minutes of the half did it dawn on you how important you are for this team?
“I was able to reflect and see where I was needed on the court, but this is still a team game. We had the lead when I wasn’t on the court in the first half. It was nice to play in the second half.”
Can you talk about the effort from Tyler Roberson tonight?
“Tonight, he’s a big guy for us. He grabs rebounds, moves in transition and is being aggressive.”
What have you seen that you would like to see the team improve on?
“Just rebounding better, getting after loose balls better and just taking care of the ball”.
Tyler Roberson, Junior, Forward
What does this team need to do to win?
“I think we need to rebound to win, and improve on that as a team”.
Do you feel as if you were crashing the glass better, putting yourself in a better position??
“I think I was putting myself in better position. I think tonight I did a good job in that and (it) just comes from being active.”
What are some of the things you feel like you have taken away from these last three games?
“I think just playing with energy from the beginning of the game. In the second half we always pick it up. But like I said, personally, just playing better.”
Malachi Richardson, Freshman, Forward
It was a little bit of a struggle shooting the ball -- did you make an adjustment during the game?
“Yeah, I had to switch it up a little bit, attack the basket and try to get to the free throw line. That was something I needed to focus on.”
You showed a lot of poise. Most freshmen would have tried to force the action but you didn’t. Can you talk about that?
“I don’t think I am the forcing type of player. I think I try to play smart and just pick my spots.”
Did Mike (Gbinije) or Trevor (Cooney) say anything to you?
“They told me to keep playing hard and get it going down at the other end and do different things to help us out.”
