Do you feel like you guys have lived and died with the 3-pointer this year?
“It’s something that we look for. We have a lot of shooters on the team and are able to space the floor out. But I think a lot of people don’t realize that we have the ability to get into the lane and be aggressive. “
You are going to be a team that shoots a high volume of threes and you might have games where you start out 1-of-9 from there. Does it require a certain amount of patience as a group to keep going at it?
“I thought that every look we were getting in the first half, even starting 1-of-9, they were good looks. We just weren’t knocking them down and it’s going to happen on some nights where you’re just not going to shoot the ball that well and some nights where you make everything. It’s just something that we have to stay consistent with.”
Are you looking forward to your first ACC game?
“Oh yeah, I can’t wait. It should be a lot of fun”
Does having played Connecticut, Texas A&M, at Georgetown – do those games help, especially yourself, Malachi, Frank Howard -- prepare for the ACC?
“Definitely. When you’re playing against those teams, all great teams, all tough teams, I think it will definitely help us out with the intensity and physicality of the game and recognizing what we have to do. I think it definitely helped out a lot.”
Trevor Cooney, Graduate Student, Guard
As a team you continued to shoot the three. How do you think you did today as a team shooting?
“Those are the shots that we have to take and have to make. At times today when we got into a good rhythm, we were making them.”
It’s such a dramatic change from the past few years, that kind of attack. Is it something you need to get used to?
“I don’t think so, no. We are just playing the game of basketball. We are trying to make plays for each other. Trying to play the game the right way and get in and make plays and find the open guy. We do it in practice and at times we have done it in these games and that’s when we are a really good team and playing a lot better.”
When you’re shooting that many threes as a team, does it require patience?
“You just want to take the good ones. I don’t think we took that many bad threes today. I think I only had two forced ones that came at the end of the shot clock. We are taking good ones. We just have to continue to take them and we will make them. We are a good shooting team. We just have to take the good ones.”
DeJuan Coleman, Senior, Center
How does it feel to be up there in points and rebounds a couple games in a row now?
“It feels good, but I still think we have some work to do. It’s going to start at practice. We are going to have a good day of practice tomorrow and Tuesday going into the Pitt game.”
How do you feel going into the Pitt game as it historically is physical all the time. What are some of your goals in the game to help the team?
“I have to have the same mindset. Going in there and scoring when I can, grabbing rebounds, and working on defense. We have to have the same mindset and play smart basketball.”
