Syracuse vs. Pittsburgh

Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement:
“I thought the difference in the game was their incredible shot making. I think that they did a terrific job making shots. There were times when our defense certainly wasn’t where it was supposed to be and wasn’t as good as it needed to be. There are also a number of occasions where we defended them pretty well and receiving it late in the shot clock and they would jump up and make one in our face so you have to give them credit. One thing we’ve been good at defensively most of the season has been defending the three and we got killed at the three-point line today so that’s always a disappointing thing for us.”
Can you talk about Syracuse’s defense in the first half? Coach Boeheim said it was the best he’s seen in a long time:
“They were active. I thought we had some transitional opportunities that we missed. We missed some layups, dunks and we got a number of balls at the goal either by virtue of pretty good offense or offensive rebounding. We got shots blocked, even when we got the ball where we needed it, they were able to recover and make deflections and blocks. Everything went for them in the first half. I thought we did a little better in the second half but not good enough to threaten the game.”
What do you tell your guys in an instance like that where Syracuse is on this tare and your guys are falling behind pretty quickly, how do you try to address and regroup them?
“You try to appeal to their pride of how important it is to get stops because you can’t get back into the game unless you have consistent stops. You just have to pick up your energy level, intensity level and pick up your aggression on defense. We are a team that likes offense, until we like defense enough then we are going to have days where we struggle to stop people. There are some really good players in this league and we saw several of them today.”
