XCTF Highlights
2016-2017 Cross Country Highlights
Â
In the last year, we saw the cross country and track program continue to find unprecedented success on the track and in the classroom:
Â
The athletic accomplishments kicked off with the Men’s XC team capturing yet another ACC Championship and Justyn Knight winning the individual crown.
Justyn went on to place 2nd at XC Nationals leading the team to a third place finish.
In indoor track, Justyn Knight and Freddie Crittenden, after winning ACC Championships, went on to place 2nd in the 5k and 60m Hurdles respectively at NCAA Indoor Championships, and along with the points from Adam Palamar’s 5th place in the mile, propelled the men’s team to 10th in the country, their highest finish to date.Â
Rounding out the spring, we saw more athletes participating in the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships as well as school records shattered all year long.Â
o  Justyn Knight (indoor 3k 7:47, outdoor 5k 13:17);
o  Freddie Crittenden (110 H 13.42);
o  Tia Thevenin (60h 8.21, 100h 13.13);
o  Kadejhia Sellers (Indoor 200 23.66, Indoor 400 52.97, Outdoor 400 52.88);
o  Paige Stoner (Indoor 5k 16:05, and Steeple 10:02);
o  And our Women’s 4 x 100 relay team (45.23 Justice Richardson, Kadejhia Sellers Victoria Parker, Dasia Pressley).
To cap off this groundbreaking year, we saw Justyn Knight square off against the best in the world in London representing Team Canada in the 5,000 meters at the World Championships. With a blazing kick in the last 100 meters of the semis, he went from the back of the lead pack to 4th which advanced him to the finals where he went on to place 9th.What an amazing accomplishment for a young man to do entering his senior year in college.
Â
Academically, this crew brought in a total of 36 ACC Academic Honor Roll spots as well as 2 Academic All-Americans. The team’s cumulative GPA continued the streak of the women’s XC team named to the USTFCCCA Scholar Team Award. Both squads finished the year well above a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
