Jim Boeheim Quotes - Eastern Michigan
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Eastern Michigan
Wednesday, Dec. 27
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Jim Boehiem
Opening Statement:
“I thought that both teams had trouble scoring, obviously. Frank (Howard) got into the lane and made some play and Tyus (Battle) hit two in a row that got us separation. Our defense has been good. It has been good all year for the most part. There are always some breakdowns, but overall our defense has been pretty good. We just have to get some offense and get something going on the offensive end.
“I thought Paschal (Chukwu) was tremendous tonight. They have a very good guy in the middle. I thought he rolled him up. I thought he did a great job on him. I thought that Marek (Dolezaj) came in and did some really good things, but Frank and Tyus are the ones that have to drive the ship. Frank made some really good plays in the second half getting into the lanes. That is a really good zone defense. It’s a tough defense and we aren’t making shots. We need to work to get it inside and I thought that we did that and Tyus making a couple of those shots was big for us.”
How would you rate Eastern Michigan’s zone?
“They are better back inside this year. Last year they spread out more. We got more easy baskets. We had more shooters so they had to come up more last year. This year they were able to get back inside more, it makes it hard to get it in there. Anytime you play against a zone you have to get something inside, and at the end of the day, you have to make something. Once we started making shots, the game changed.”
How will the non-conference schedule you played this year prepare you for ACC play?
“We have had a lot of tough games and I think we will survive it. We have to try to get through it and try to get better. The team has shown a lot of determination, a lot of grit, and they keep battling out there.
Can you give an update on Bourama Sidibe’s health?
“We are waiting. We tried resting him for a week and we are going to try to see if he can go a little bit this weekend. If he still has a lot of pain, we may wait a little longer. We are not going to play him unless we feel that he can play. “
