Jim Boeheim Quotes - Virginia Tech
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Virginia Tech
Sunday, Dec. 31
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Opening Statement:
“I thought that defensively we were really good in the first half. We took away their inside stuff and really got to their shooters. Second half started and we didn't do a real good job defensively getting back. They got three open threes, they are a very good shooting team. We did a good job defending them and sometimes our zone is better against shooting teams.”
“Tonight was a good example of that. We made some bad mistakes coming down to the end of the game, but that didn’t matter because we had enough of an edge. But, we can’t make those turnovers in those situations.”
“I thought that we attacked the basket. Frank [Howard] made some really good plays in the first half and three big threes to get us some separation. Second half, Tyus [Battle] got to the basket and Oshae [Brissett] did his thing and got to the basket. They are a very, very good team and it was a good win. We have very little time to enjoy it and we need to get ready to go down and play Wake Forest.”
On Virginia Tech averaging 91 points coming in and Syracuse nuetralizing them:
“Our defense is pretty good. It was good today. When we play them down there, they’ll probably make 100 threes. Offense, defense, everything fluctuates from game to game. We were really good the first half, not so good the second half. But it was mostly transition defense in the second half.
What did you think of the play of your three freshmen?
“I thought they were all good. I thought Matt [Moyer] was really good on the boards. Oshae [Brissett] does what he does. Marek’s [Dolezaj] stats don’t show it, but he was really good down there. I thought Paschal [Chukwu] was good on defense. He just has to commit and stop making foolish fouls.”
How would you rate the team's rebounding effort?
“We did a good job the second half on the boards. We did a good job. We did some really good things offensively.”
Does it help having experienced guards like Frank Howard and Tyus Battle on the court?
“This team has been good. We have had a lot of tough games. They have made a lot of good plays in tough games.”
