Head Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes - Colgate
Syracuse Men's Basketball
Syracuse vs. Colgate

Head Coach Jim Boeheim
Opening Statement:
“I thought Colgate really moved the ball. It was good for us to have to play that type of defense. We are going to see those
kinds of teams that can move the ball and get good shots. I thought the first half our defense was much better. We made
some really bad offensive plays in the first half that kept us from getting control of the game. Then, in the second half, we
were better offensively and then got a little stagnate defensively. Those guys can shoot. They all can shoot - a team that has
four perimeter guys that all can shoot.
"I think one of the things is that we need Bourama [Sidibe] to be healthy. Paschal [Chukwu] doesn’t go to the corner quite as well defensively as Bourama. We think his ankle will be better in two to three days. We are hoping that we can get him back.
"I thought that we struggled offensively and that we need to keep working and trying to get better, finding out where people’s spots are. Today Matt [Moyer] was trying to rebound when he should have been trying to spot up, and when he spotted up he should have been rebounding. He needs to figure it out. We have a lot of work to do to get to be a better team and we are a long way from there right now. I think you need to give Colgate a lot of credit that they moved the ball and made some shots.”
What is the key to the perimeter defense moving forward?
“You are going to give up threes, everyone does. Teams that play man-to-man give up threes, everybody does. We
just need to do a little better job on it. But today we were pretty good, but not where we need to be. The thing you have to
remember is that they shot four free throws. They are going to get some threes but we are going to get more free throws. That will make a difference in the game. If people are just going to try to get a three and try to take the whole possession, we usually beat those teams. We weren’t quite as good on the board as we have been, tonight. We did okay but weren’t quite as good as we have been. I give Colgate a lot of credit, I thought their defense was good. They kept us blocked out. We have a lot to do, we have to get better.”
Were you happy with the team's shot selection and efficiency on offense?
“I think we took a couple that we maybe shouldn’t have. Oshae [Brissett] can make that three. He hasn’t been making it, but he
can. If he makes that shot, we’re a different team. We are a different threat. This was his worst rebounding game all year.
We are still trying to get together offensively as to what we can do, and we have a lot of work to do to get better.”
How can the offense improve?
“We need a lot of things. We have a lot areas where we can get better. We have our movement, some of the play calls, some of the sets we are in. We have to figure out where Matt [Moyer] can help us. If teams are going to block him out, he needs to be part of the offense. We have to figure that out and we haven’t been able to do that yet. Marek [Dolezaj] gives us movement and does some things that Matt doesn’t do. That’s why he’s playing more in most situations. We have to be aware of where the ball is. We have to adjust each game and see what’s there. There are a number of things that we can do better”
