Super Bowl Participants
Syracuse has had at least one representative in 32 of the 53 Super Bowls. Orange alums have made a total of 40 appearances, winning 26 Super Bowl rings. That does not include Rob Carpenter (Green Bay Packers, 1996) Sir Mawn Wilson (Denver Broncos, 1997), Scott Kiernan (New York Giants, 2000), Quinton Spotwood (New York Giants, 2000) and Eric Crume (Carolina Panthers, 2015) who were practice-squad players for Super Bowl teams. It also doesn't include John Flannery (St. Louis Rams, 1999), Roland Williams (Oakland Raiders, 2002) and James Mungro (Indianapolis Colts, 2006) who were on injured reserve when their teams reached the NFL title game.
Art Monk's four Super Bowl appearances for the Washington Redskins are the most of any Orange alum. He and Daryl Johnston are both three-time Super Bowl champions. Larry Csonka was MVP of Super Bowl VIII after rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Miami Dolphins past the Minnesota Vikings, 24-7.
Three-year SU letterwinner Tom Coughlin is among the most accomplished coaches in Super Bowl history. He won three world championships with the New York Giants. As head coach, Coughlin led the Giants to victories in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.
