Player Quotes - EWU
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Eastern Washington
November 6, 2018
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Jalen Carey, Fr., Guard
Can you talk about your style of play when you are out there?
“When I’m out there I go 110 percent. When I start getting into the flow of the game I don’t even think about my injury, I just let the game come to me.”
Where do feel like you are coming back from after missing three weeks?
“I wouldn’t say I’m behind at all. It’s just developing a rhythm out there and a chemistry with the guys. I wouldn’t say I’m behind, I am just getting back into the flow of the offense and seeing how the other guys are playing.”
Marek Dolezaj, So., Forward
How much more confident are you this year shooting the ball?
“I was working on it all summer with Coach, so I feel very confident. If I am open, I’m going to take the shot.”
How do you feel your improved shooting affects the offense?
“We can be a lot more spread out, and when we drive and kick we’ve got shooters around the court.”
What’s it like to be able to go eight or nine guys deep this year as opposed to last year?
“It’s different. We can run a lot more and press for a long time. It’s fun and it’s good to know no matter who is in your going to have fresh guys.”
Elijah Hughes, R-Jr., Forward
How much different was this game than the exhibitions?
“When you’re playing basketball, you’re playing basketball. It doesn’t matter who is watching.”
What did it mean to finally step on the court?
“It’s just playing basketball. It did feel good to finally play and suit up for real this time, but like I said, once you make the first shot and see the first one go in, you’re just playing.”
Is this a better team offensively than last year?
“Absolutely. Some guys missed some shots. Tyus (Battle) missed a couple good ones he makes. Buddy (Boeheim) missed a few he makes. I missed a few I make. We missed a few shots and that’s what happens.”
Oshae Brissett, So., Forward
Can you talk about the full court press a little bit?
“Coach definitely wanted us to be a lot more active than the first half. You can see in the second half, we started to get our steals. It wasn’t just myself – it was a team effort when everyone has their hands up and is moving and all those things. I’m happy we were able to get those stops and Coach was happy with it too.”
Do you think this is the ceiling of what this team had last year and just the floor for this team this year defensively?
“For sure. We want to keep moving on defense, we want to keep our hands up. Our leader in steals last year wasn’t even playing – Frank Howard. Once we get him back out there, it’s going to be even worse for other teams. I’m happy the guys we had in were able to contribute on the defensive end and help us out and break that record and I am happy to be a part of that.”
How does it feel to be the only other school other than Mississippi State to have the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the football teams ranked right now?
“That’s exciting. I didn’t know that. That’s a great stat, special to be a part of. I’m happy for the women and our football team for doing that. We have a game on Friday – so I just want them to keep pushing and get to that big bowl games and just keep at it.”
What can you take from this for Saturday?
“We just want to move the ball a lot more on the offensive end. I feel like when we get our movement, a lot of guys can’t really stand in front of the offensive players that we have. So that’s something we’re going to go back and watch film on and prep for the next game.”
