Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Tyus Battle, So., G
How was the team able to bounce back after back to back non-conference losses?
“We played better defense, ran in transition, got easier buckets and were able to get to the free throw line. This is a good start with one more non-conference game left and then beginning ACC play.”
Did coach have a message for the team at half time?
“Stop the shooters. Make them get it out of their hands quicker and then crash the boards.”
Why did the team seem to be more aggressive on offense today?
“We were just trying to play faster today and we want to play faster to compete with teams that are scoring 80 points a game”.
Oshae Brissett, So., F
What was it like to get help from Paschal on the boards today?
“Great - we all praise him for that and we all want him to do that. I think he took it really personal not starting today and he showed coach why he should be out there.”
Were there any player meetings held after that tough loss to Buffalo?
“We're all basketball players so we all know that losses will happen and it’s obviously tough to swallow, but we just practiced hard to get back to our old selves today.”
Paschal Chukwu, Sr., C
This was the best game you’ve had, especially on the boards, today. Was not starting extra motivation to get after it?
“I’ve really been trying to get after it in the past two days of practice, so today I was just going for every rebound.”
How important is it to get the ball into the post?
“Yeah, it’s important. A lot of teams go into the post when the ball is there, so when you pass the ball inside it really helps bring the attention towards the ball and lets the guards get open.
Elijah Hughes, R-Jr., F
After a whole bunch of games, what are you feeling is your role within this offense?
“Score, attack the basket, make plays… just be a player, really. Whether I’m getting into the lane and scoring or getting in the lane and making a play, making a pass, or a foul. Just being a player.
You guys hadn’t cleared 70 points since Georgetown, what does that mean tonight to you?
“It felt good. We got out a lot, so I got some easy buckets, easy looks, so it felt good.
What do you think the difference was?
“Just playing with a sense of urgency. In the last two losses, I don’t feel like we really came out to play in the second half.”
