Syracuse vs. Georgetown

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Tyus Battle, Jr., G
Just a normal Syracuse-Georgetown game, right?
“Georgetown’s a really good team, well coached, really good players. They made some shots, but it’s always fun to play in this rivalry.”
Can you take us through the final possession?
“Honestly, I just was playing, I don’t really think too much. I was trying to get an open look and I happened to get one. It felt good when I let it go.”
What was going through your head on Marek Dolezaj’s charge?
“I thought that was a great play on his part, a real heady play. He got right in front of him and the guy ran him over.”
Elijah Hughes, So., F
Coach said he wanted to get you the ball on the last play. What’s going through your mind when you see Tyus Battle get the ball like that?
“I was trying to make something happen. When he got it I went to go for a tip. When he has the ball in his hands like that I’m comfortable. I’ve seen him make plays like that all summer, that’s the type of guy he’s always been.”
How did the offensive mindset change after halftime?
“We just saw a couple go in and once you see that it’s that much easier. Then the crowd got behind us and our confidence grew so it’s that much easier.”
Oshae Brissett, So., F
What’s it like playing in front a big crowd like that and getting a win over a rival?
“It’s great getting these tests early on. We know games are going to be hard like this. I thought we came out too lackadaisical and thought we were just going to win. Stuff like this is good for us, we need to face adversity and it was good to fight through it in the second half.’
How has your mentality changed offensively from earlier in the year?
“I felt like early on in the year I wasn’t comfortable out there on the court. I did a lot of working out and thinking and realized that attacking the basket is something I have to do. With my size and athleticism, it’s hard for defenses to really stop.”
Jalen Carey, Fr., G
On one sequence, you turned the ball over but came down and had a huge block right after. Do you feel like you proved something?
“It feels great. My teammates know that we all deserve to be on this team but it was good. I don’t give up on any possessions and it turned out to be a big play in the game.”
You guys really turned it up in the second half. What happened?
“Even if our shots aren’t falling we always emphasize defense first. We came out a little sluggish in the first half, which we let get to us, but in the second our defense picked up, which led to our offense. We started pushing the pace and scoring in transition more. Tyus (Battle) was able to get going and he brought us home.”
