2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl
Syracuse 36, Kansas State 34
Dec. 30, 2010
Bronx, N.Y.Â
Syracuse amassed 498 yards total offense and defeated Kansas State 36-34 in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. SU improved its overall bowl record to 13-9-1, while securing its eighth victory of the season and sixth road win.
Quarterback Ryan Nassib threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns. All three scoring passes went to receiver Marcus Sales, who finished with 172 yards on five catches. Game MVP Delone Carter ran for a career-high 198 yards and two touchdowns.Â
The Orange grabbed a 14-7 lead on two touchdowns by Sales. A 10-yard TD by K-State’s Daniel Thomas tied the score at halftime.
In the third quarter, the two sides traded touchdowns, however, a missed PAT by Ross Krautman on Carter’s 15-yard TD run left the score 27-21 Orange. Another Thomas touchdown, this time from a yard out, and the PAT gave the Wildcats a brief one-point margin. SU responded with nine straight points to pull ahead 36-28 with 3:08 remaining.
A 30-yard touchdown pass Carson Coffman to Adrian Hilburn brought K-State within two at the 1:13 mark. But an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was assessed to Hilburn after the play, backing up K-State’s two-point conversion try to the 18-yard line. The Syracuse defense denied the attempt to capture the Steinbrenner Trophy.
