Syracuse vs. Miami

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga
Syracuse shot the ball really well tonight. Was that the difference in the game?
“Well, the way I would say it is Coach [Jim] Boeheim’s son was the player of the game. He came in, scored 10 points in the first half. It was a one basket game, 32-29 at the half, and he had a third of their points in the half. He had a huge night and we hung for a while, but their size is just overwhelming to our guards because we’re just not big enough.”
Did it seem like Chris Lykes was outmatched by Syracuse’s size?
“If you’re [Chris]’s size, you have to have the ability to get in the paint and then get the ball out of there. It’s not just [Paschal] Chukwu, it’s also the length of [Syracuse]’s guards that cover so much territory and it’s very hard to get it in and then get it out of the lane. We needed to shoot the three ball better. In the first half, we had some very good looks that we just missed. Maybe, if we made those, we’d be able to stretch it out a little bit more and there’s more room inside.”
How do you feel Syracuse compares to the rest of the top teams in the conference?
“Syracuse is as good defensively as any team in the conference that we’ve played so far and when they are shooting the ball as well as they did tonight – look how they played at Duke – they’re going to be a very hard team to beat.”
