Head Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes - Carleton
Syracuse Men's Basketball
Syracuse vs. Carleton

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Jim Boeheim
Opening Statement:
“I think the advantage of this game is that you’re playing a really smart, physical, tough team that knows how to win and, in the beginning, we weren’t active and they got some easy shots and easy baskets. And that’s what happens when your defense isn’t active. Then, you get it active and the rest of the game was a different story from that point on from the defensive end. Our turnovers were better. We made some shots early when we had to, but we didn’t rebound in the first half. In the second half, we got on the boards a little bit better and got some second chances. But, they’re a very good team and this was a really good game for us.”
Did you plan to utilize Elijah Hughes and his three-point ability to bring the ball up?
“No not really. He can bring it and if he brings it, we have a different attack when he has the ball. We will have him do that. But our guards can bring it up. They got harassed the whole game and were still able to bring it up.”
What did you find about your offense in the half court?
“We did some good things. Second half was better. We got a little hurried up and took a few threes early. Fortunately, Buddy hit a couple and Joe hit a couple that first half that were pretty good shots, pretty tough shots. That kind of got us back in it. We played better offensively in the second half. We moved a little better and got some better opportunities.”
Defensively, how do you feel the young guys are adjusting to your system?
“They are learning. We had too much guard penetration tonight, and they got in the lane too much, be we adjusted, and they closed it up and got better at it.”
