Syracuse vs. Boston College

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Marek Dolezaj, So., Forward
What did you do today that made coach like your effort?
“We had a couple of good steals, we had fastbreaks. They tried to put the ball in the middle and I just tipped it out.”
You guys had the 20-point lead but let that slip away. Was that a lack of effort at that time?
“I think so. We had three or four turnovers. It was still a 20-point game with eight minutes, they could have come back, but we did a really good job after that and we won the game.”
Do you feel you were more aggressive on defense today?
“I just tried to be aggressive on offense and defense. I tried to do my job. They tried to put the ball there, and I took the ball a couple of times.”
Tyus Battle, Jr., Guard
What do you think of the team defense compared to the first matchup?
“I felt it was better. We found the shooters. We found (Jordan) Chatman better. (Ky) Bowman hit some tough shots. Overall, I felt we did a pretty good job.”
What does Marek Dolezaj bring to you guys when he plays in the high post? It seems like he does a lot for your team.
“Versatility. He can go by the guy. He can make great passes. He has a really high IQ. He’s been great in that position right there and he’s been doing that since last year. We’re really confident in that area.”
The team had 25 points off turnovers tonight. How were you guys able to capitalize on their mistakes and get out to that comfortable lead?
“Just pushing it. Anytime you’re in transition, it should either be a bucket or a foul. It’s pretty easy.”
Oshae Brissett, So., Forward
Another double-double for you. What’s been going right the past few games?
“Just attacking, staying in the same mindset, trying to be that aggressive guy that I am.”
Tyus takes over in that little three-minute stretch there, gets 21 points in the second half. Last time against BC he got 15, what is it about Tyus?
“It’s year three, he’s doing what he can getting three’s and getting to the basket. He’s finding open shooters and even now I feel like he’s doing a great job and that’s what’s going to separate him and change his mindset and his game.”
You say you want to be that aggressive guy and there are times that you pass the ball out or to Buddy Boeheim. How do you balance that aggressiveness to the rim with moving the ball out?
“Just feeling the game out and knowing when to go for the basket and when not to. When I do that I feel like there’s a lot of guys on the help side so it’d be a tougher shot for me to get out and that’s when Buddy or Tyus (Battle) or Elijah (Hughes) get out there.”
Buddy Boeheim, Fr., Guard
Considering the amount of wins the team has in the ACC what can you say about where the team’s at right now?
“We’re doing very well right now. We just want to make sure that we finish this out strongly and improve every game so we go on and succeed to the top of the ACC.”
You seem active on defense. Are you working harder on that and how do you feel like you’re doing?
“I feel like I’m doing better and just knowing where the shooters are is the biggest thing. We really stress that at practice and I think it definitely showed today.”
Confidence-wise, how are you feeling right about now?
“I definitely struggled last game and I’m happy that I turned that around and didn’t let that stop me or get me down.”
