Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes - Notre Dame
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Notre Dame
January 4, 2020
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Jim Boeheim
Opening Statement:
“Both teams played great with great offense and big shots. We made the big shot at the end that we had to make. We couldn’t get a stop and we played just about as well, offensively, as we can. But you have to get stops to win and we didn’t do that.”
Did you expect Howard Washington to be playing as much at the start of the season?
“Before the season, we didn’t know what was going to happen. We had five guards before the season. But things change. So, you have to change with what happens. Two guys are hurt, and one guy was out today.”
How hard is it to stay with guards like T.J. Gibbs?
“It’s hard because he’s so physical down low. He’s a physical, strong, tough kid and we just couldn’t deal with him down there. We’ve had the same problem all year. Our offense is better now, so we can hang in. But guarding players like Gibbs is a challenge.”
What did you think of Joe Girard III’s performance down the stretch?
“He just started making shots and he can do that. He got going and got hot. Our guards are young and they’re going to make some mistakes, but they’re getting better.”
Where do you think Marek Dolezaj fits best offensively?
“He’s good wherever he is. He’s playing good basketball. It’s tough for him to play center with the physical demands of the position. But he’s a hard matchup for other people. Quincy (Guerrier) did a good job coming and getting on the boards. He’s earned some more playing time. He’s been good in practice too so we’ll see him more.”
