THE OUTCOME
- NC State scored nine unanswered points in the fourth quarter and held off Syracuse, 36-29, in the Carrier Dome.Â
- Junior Taj Harris (WR) hauled in a career-best 13 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. His game yardage total was also a career-high total.
- Harris moved into 10th on the Syracuse career reception list (127).
- Senior Rex Culpepper (QB) completed 23 of 45 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. The 45 throws represented a career-high total.
- Sophomore Mikel Jones (LB) intercepted an NC State pass and returned it 27 yards to the Wolfpack five-yard line in the second quarter. It was his fourth pick of the season and put him first among ACC defenders and third in the NCAA Division I ranks.
- Redshirt junior Ifeatu Melifonwu (CB) earned his first quarterback sack of the season. It resulted in a 10-yard loss for the Wolfpack.
- Freshman Marlowe Wax (LB) sacked NC State quarterback Bailey Hockman for a 12-yard loss and a safety late in the second period. It was Syracuse’s first safety since 2017 – that time it was Parris Bennett at LSU.
- Ja’Had Carter (ROV) had a career-best 13 total tackles, including 11 solo stops.
- Freshman Trebor Pena (WR) returned a first-quarter kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. It represented Syracuse’s longest kickoff return since Dorian Graham carried a kick 98 yards against West Virginia in 2011.
- Redshirt junior Andre Szymt (PK) converted a 45-yard and a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter. It was the 55th and 56th field goals of his career. Szymt ranks third all-time and trails Cole Murphy (59) and John Biskup (57) .
- Szymt converted three extra points, improving his career total to 120. He ranks third behind Nate Trout (187) and John Biskup (125).
- Freshman Marlowe Wax (LB) became the sixth Syracuse freshman (including redshirt) to start on defense this season, a school record.
