THE OUTCOME
- Boston College held off a late Syracuse rally and defeated the Orange, 16-13. A Syracuse touchdown with 21 seconds left narrowed the Eagle advantage, but the subsequent onside kick attempt failed.
- Freshman JaCobian Morgan (QB) completed 19 of 30 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown in his first career start. He threw one interception.
- Morgan’s 14-yard scramble set up Syracuse’s last-minute touchdown.
- Freshman Sean Tucker (RB) returned to action from an injury and carried 11 times for 52 yards.
- Redshirt sophomore Cooper Lutz (RB) finished with a personal-best three receptions for 35 yards. His long reception of 18 yards was also a career-long.
- Junior Taj Harris (WR) led all receivers with seven receptions.
- Senior Aaron Hackett (TE) caught two passes, including a one-yard touchdown toss from Morgan.
- Freshman Rob Hannah (ROV) had a squad-best eight tackles, including seven solo stops.
- Sophomore Mikel Jones (LB) ended the game with seven total stops.
- Redshirt freshman Garrett Williams (CB) finished with six tackles, including a tackle for a four-yard loss.
- Redshirt junior Andre Szymt (PK) converted a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter.
- Szymt added a 46-yard 3-pointer in the third quarter to take over sole possession of third place on Syracuse’s career list with 54. He breaks a tie with Dave Jacobs (1975-78), who accumulated 53.
- Redshirt senior Nolan Cooney (P) had a 63-yard punt in the fourth quarter. It was one yard shy of his career-best effort.
- Cooney finished with five punts for a 45.2 average.
- Freshman JaCobian Morgan (QB) became the 15th Syracuse player to make his first career start this season. That ranks 11th among FBS schools and second in the ACC.
- Morgan is the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Syracuse since Nov. 7, 2015, when Eric Dungey was with the first unit at Louisville.
- Morgan is the seventh true freshman to get the starting nod at quarterback for the Orange in program history.
- Morgan accumulated the second-most passing yards by a Syracuse freshman in his first collegiate start (188). Eric Dungey ranks first on the list (221 yards) from 2015 against Wake Forest.
