Wake Forest Head Coach Quotes
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Wake Forest
February 8, 2020
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning
Opening Statement:
“Obviously we didn’t get the outcome we wanted. I think we had a much better second half in terms of scoring the basketball. Having said that, we also had too many turnovers. We had 12 turnovers in the second half. We only had three in the first half. I thought we did a really good job of giving ourselves a chance to get some extra possessions on offensive rebounds and fast-break points. We got the shot at the end. It was a contested shot, but we didn’t come up with that rebound at the end.”
When (Marek) Dolezaj and (Bourama) Sidibe fouled out for Syracuse, did you think you had control of the last few minutes?
“No. We wanted to get to the bonus. Three of those big guys fouled out. I thought our big guys did a really good job of having a presence and posting up and occupying them. But, having said that, we didn’t get into the bonus until late in the second half. The numbers didn’t get us to the bonus as quickly as we’d like.”
You were facing a 16-point deficit early in the second half. What did you tell your team to get them to rally back?
“Syracuse and Coach Boeheim having been playing this zone for an awful long time and been very successful. We wanted to get the ball to certain areas in the zone. We thought we missed some opportunities in the first half. In the second half, we did a much better job of getting it in to the high post and the short corner. When you play against Syracuse, you have to embrace the trap. If you can get the ball to an open teammate, you should have the numbers behind you. I thought we did a good job in the second half of finding that soft spot at the ACC logo in the paint.”
