SU 68 Rutgers 54
Syracuse’s two-game losing-streak came to an end as Damone Brown posted career-highs of 28 points and seven steals to lead the Orangemen in a 68-54 victory against Rutgers University at the Carrier Dome.
Things started slowly for the Orangemen as the Scarlet Knights took a one-point lead with just under five minutes left in the first half, but Brown had other things in mind for this game. He posted a layup with 3:55 to go that kicked off a 9-2 Syracuse run to close the half at 31-25, SU.
Syracuse continued the spurt in the second half, opening with an 11-4 run to claim its largest lead of the game, 42-29. Brown went on to score 15 of his 28 points in the remaining 16:35 as SU took control of the game. The Orangemen never allowed Rutgers within less than 11 points of the lead.
Four other Orangemen posted career highs in the victory. DeShaun Williams dished-out 11 assists, four better than his previous high. He had tied his mark at the intermission with seven assists. Billy Celuck and Jeremy McNeil repeated career-bests that had been set earlier in the week against Notre Dame -- Celuck with a career-high 10 points and McNeil with nine rebounds.
Preston Shumpert reached double-digit points for the 19th consecutive contest... His 10 defensive rebounds were a personal best.
