Kansas 87 SU 58
DAYTON, OH - Five players with double-digit point totals led fourth-seeded Kansas over fifth-rated Syracuse, 87-58, in the second round of the Midwest Regional.   Â
The Jayhawks led from start to finish but not without a couple of scares from the Orangemen. With Kansas ahead 30-13 and the game on the verge of becoming a blowout, SU strung together a 21-9 run paced by 10 points from DeShaun Williams and seven from Preston Shumpert. The run pulled SU within five points at the intermission.   Â
Despite the efforts of Williams and Shumpert, who each finished with 20 points, the Jayhawks proved too much to handle. A 28-10 Kansas stretch put the game out of reach.   Â
The Orangemen were out-rebounded 56-23 in the loss and shot just 30.4 percent from the field. Meanwhile Kansas canned 55.8 percent of its attempts, including a 50 percent mark from the three-point stripe.    Â
Syracuse did force 20 Jayhawk turnovers but the effort was not enough to halt the largest margin of defeat for SU in its NCAA tournament history.
