THE SYRACUSE WIN…
- Improves head coach Dino Babers’ career record to 62-52 and his mark at Syracuse to 25-36.
- Gives ‘Cuse an 8-3 record in its last 11 season openers.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
- The Orange rushed for 283 yards, which is their highest total since Nov. 16, 2019 when they accumulated 286 yards against Duke.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
- Syracuse posted a safety in the first quarter. It marks the second-straight year that the Orange have recorded a safety (vs. NC State 11/28/20).
- ‘Cuse held its opponent to less than 10 points for the first time since it defeated Duke, 49-6, in 2019.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- WR Taj Harris recorded six catches for 29 yards. With his performance, Harris has moved into fourth place on Syracuse’s career receptions leader list with 141. He now trails just Ervin Phillips (223), Steve Ishmael (219) and Alec Lemon.
- PK Andre Szmyt converted on both of his field goal attempts. He now owns the No. 2 spot on Syracuse’s career record list with 58 field goals. He needs two more to surpass Cole Murphy’s 59 career field goals.
- RB Sean Tucker rushed for a career-high 181 yards on a career-best 25 attempts. It marks the fourth time Tucker has recorded 100 yards rushing in a game in 10 career games. In addition, his 47-yard dash in the first quarter was a career-long rush.
- OL Airon Servais made his 49th consecutive start against Ohio. He has started every game that he has played in during his career.
- QB Tommy DeVito returned to the starting lineup for the first time since he suffered a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the 2020 season against Duke. It was his 16th career start. He was 11-for-17 for 92 yards. DeVito also rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown.
- Freshman DB Duce Chestnut was part of the starting lineup in his collegiate debut. He made quite an impact, recording eight tackles, including five solo, .5 tackle for loss and an interception.
