Former NFL receiver David Gettis is in his fourth year as a quality control coach for the Orange. Gettis played two seasons for the Carolina Panthers and also spent time with the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers during his pro career.Â

A collegiate standout at Baylor from 2006-09, Gettis played for Syracuse head coach Dino Babers for two seasons when Babers was Baylor’s wide receivers coach.

Gettis finished his college career ranked seventh at Baylor in career receiving yards (1,555), tied for eighth all-time in receptions (116) and eighth in kick return average (22.7).Â

A 2009 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention choice, Gettis was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played a combined 17 games for the Panthers from 2010-12. As a rookie in 2010, he tallied 37 receptions for 508 yards and a team-high three touchdown catches. He also returned eight kickoffs for 145 yards.

In 2015, Gettis returned to Baylor to complete his undergraduate degree and spent the 2015 football season as a student coach for the Bears. He worked as a graduate assistant on Coach Jim Grobe’s Baylor staff the following year.

Gettis received his first full-time coaching job in 2017, serving as the wide receivers coach for the University of Texas Permian Basin.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Gettis holds a bachelor’s degree in health, kinesiology and leisure studies from Baylor. Â
