One of the premier recruiters and skill developers of post players in the country, Adeniyi Amadou is in his second season as an assistant coach. He returned to Syracuse prior to the 2015-16 season after having served as the Orange assistant director of basketball operations during the 2009-10 season.
Most recently, Amadou served as an assistant coach for the Kentucky women’s basketball program. The Wildcats advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and 2016, including a trip to the 2016 regional semifinal.Â
A native of Paris, Amadou has also coached at the University of Kentucky for two seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16, and at the University of Dayton from 2010-11 through 2014-15.
At Dayton, Amadou he worked with post players and scouting and recruiting. While with the Flyers, Amadou helped the team to at least 23 victories each season and back-to-back Atlantic 10 regular-season titles.Â
During his first stint at Syracuse in 2009-10, the Orange posted a 25-11 overall record, which included a trip to the WNIT quarterfinals. It marked the furthest the program had advanced in postseason play in its history.Â
Amadou, who started his collegiate playing career for the Black Knights of the United States Military Academy at West Point, completed his . He transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and led his team in offensive rebounding as a senior.
He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from IUP and earned a master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse. Amadou is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in mass communication from the Newhouse School.
