As the director of program management and development, Cedric Solice is responsible for serving as a liaison between the coaching staff and Syracuse Athletics administration, the equipment department, the strength and conditioning staff, the Atlantic Coast Conference office, and various other department and campus units. He oversees operational budget management, student-athlete welfare and development, alumni events and relations, team travel, non-conference game scheduling, and coordination of all on campus recruiting activities.
Solice has served the Orange women basketball program in many capacities, including his current role which he resumed prior to the 2016-17 season. He also filled this role as director of basketball operations and assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2009 through 2012. Solice was an assistant coach during the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons. His duties included on-court coaching, recruiting, positional scouting, and post positional player development. In his two seasons as an assistant coach, the Orange went 54-16 and twice advanced to the NCAA Tournament, going all the way to the 2016 national title game.
Solice joined the Syracuse women’s basketball staff in 2006 as a graduate manager. In that role he was responsible for assisting the coaching staff will all aspects of practice, including helping players with individual workouts. In addition, he also handled several minor administrative needs of the coaching staff and facilitated the setup and breakdown of all practices. In the fall of 2008, Solice was awarded the graduate assistantship, which allowed him to continue his above assigned duties.
Solice brings international basketball and leadership development experience to the women’s basketball program. In the summer of 2017, he was named the United States team delegate for the men’s basketball staff for the 2017 World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan. Two months prior, Solice worked with the coaching staff of the Turkish senior women’s national team as a coaching and scheme advisor during its training camp before the European Basketball Championship. In May 2017, he was selected and completed in the Marine Corps Coaches Leadership Workshop at Marine Base Quantico in Quantico, Va. During his 2015-16 stint as an assistant coach for the program, Solice was accepted into and completed the WBCA’s prestigious Center for Coaching Excellence program.
Prior to coming to Syracuse, Solice was the varsity assistant boy’s coach at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va. during the 2005-06 season. Randolph-Macon went 19-4 en route to a regular-season championship. From 2001-04, Solice was a part of the National Basketball Developmental League’s Charleston Lowgators in a variety of capacities. The Lowgators advanced to the NBDL final in the 2001-02 season and the NBDL semifinals in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
Solice earned his bachelor’s degree from Charleston Southern University in 2005 and completed his graduate work at Syracuse University in 2010.
