Mackenzi Sherman

All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) rower from the University of Virginia, Mackenzi Sherman, joined the Syracuse Women’s Rowing program as assistant coach in August 2019. For the previous two years Sherman was the assistant coach at Smith College.
Sherman’s coaching experience includes recruiting, practice planning and training development.
At Smith, Sherman coordinated daily practices and created annual training plans, while managing the recruiting of prospective student-athletes, planning on-campus visits, expanding the team’s social media presence, and managing team travel.
During the summer of 2018 she was an assistant coach with the Anchorage (AK) Rowing Association where she coached athletes of various skill levels from novice to experienced juniors, collegiate and masters rowers.
She began her coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia in 2016. She helped lead UVA to its eighth-straight ACC Championship and was responsible for working with the novice athletes.
On the water at Virginia, Sherman competed in three NCAA Championships and won three ACC Championships. She was an All-ACC Second Team honoree and a member of the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll and All-ACC Academic Rowing Team as a senior. She began her collegiate rowing career at Loyola Marymount where she was a member of the Varsity 8.
Sherman was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team from 2011-12.
She earned a degree in psychology from Virginia in 2016 and completed a Master’s of Science in exercise and sports studies from Smith College in May 2019.
