Marcus Walker
- Title:
- Nickels
Walker joined head coach Fran Brown’s staff in January 2026 as Syracuse’s nickels coach. He brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience, along with an accomplished playing career as an All-Big XII standout and NFL player.
Walker spent the previous three seasons at Towson as cornerbacks coach, helping develop an All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) honoree each year. In 2023, Robert Javier earned All-CAA Second Team honors, Towson’s first cornerback recognized by the league since 2014, before signing as an undrafted free agent. In 2024, Myles Brodie was named All-CAA Third Team. In 2025, Brodie earned All-CAA Second Team Honors after finishing in the top-25 nationally in passes defended, including 10 breakups.
Prior to Towson, Walker served as cornerbacks coach at Louisiana Tech (2022), where cornerbacks Myles Brooks and Willie Roberts earned All-Conference USA honors— Brooks as a Second Team selection and Roberts as an honorable mention. Brooks was later invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl and went on to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. Walker coached defensive backs at Stephen F. Austin (2020–21), where SFA ranked among the FCS top 20 nationally in scoring defense, total defense, and interceptions. SFA’s defense led the Western Athletic Conference in multiple categories, and cornerback Myles Brooks earned First Team All-WAC honors. Walker also helped recruit and develop cornerback Charles Demmings, who was selected in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
In 2019, Walker served as cornerbacks coach at McNeese State. His defensive backfield was led by Darion Dunn, a First Team All-Southland selection who led the conference in interceptions. Multiple members of the unit went on to professional opportunities, including Andre Sam and Colby Richardson.
Walker coached defensive backs at Henderson State (2018), where safety Malik Brown earned Second Team All-Great American Conference honors and the secondary totaled 11 interceptions.
Walker began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Oklahoma (2015–17) as a graduate assistant, helping the Sooners win three Big 12 titles and reach the College Football Playoff twice. As a player at Oklahoma (2004–07), he was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and team captain who helped the Sooners win three conference championships and make three BCS bowl appearances, including the 2004 national championship game. Walker played professionally with the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers, and later with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL).
Walker earned his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and master’s degrees in Human Relations and Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma.
A native of Waco, Texas, Walker and his wife, Destini, have two daughters, Shiloh and Noah.
