With the Syracuse field hockey team honoring its four seniors prior to Sunday's home regular-season finale against No. 19 Princeton, Cuse.com will be spotlighting each one of the team's four seniors each day this week. Previous spotlights: Alma Fenne
Jess Jecko has been nothing but consistent in her time with the Orange.
The senior, who will be one of the four seniors honored before Sunday's regular-season home finale with Emma Russell, Alyssa Manley and Alma Fenne, is one of the Orange's captains this season and has led with strong play in net for the nation's top-ranked team.
The Clinton, N.Y. native hasn't allowed more than one goal in a game since Sept. 19, a span of seven-straight games of one or less goal that includes three 'Cuse wins over ranked opponents.
Stepping up in big games is nothing new for Jecko, who helped Syracuse to its first NCAA title game appearance last season with six saves against North Carolina in the semifinal game that reached a shootout.
"That was probably the best game of my life, the feeling afterwards I can't even describe," Jecko said. "I'll probably be talking about that game until I'm 80 years old."
Jecko has started 33-straight games for the Orange, boasting a 27-6 record in that time span. Wins have come often with this senior class, already owning the fourth-most wins of any class in program history with more games to be played in 2015.
"I just love this senior group," Jecko said. "They've been there for me for the rough times and the good times. I look at them as sisters and a family. I know that as the years go on we're going to continue to be close friends and I just have to thank them for continuing to support me and push me to be better."
Jecko and her fellow seniors will be honored before the start of Sunday's matchup with No. 19 Princeton. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Orange also has a game on Saturday this weekend against a highly-ranked ACC opponent, hosting Wake Forest at J.S. Coyne Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.
