Matches most honorees as a league member
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seven members of the 2016 Syracuse University women's rowing team earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team accolades, the conference announced on Thursday morning. Syracuse ranked third in the league with seven honorees.
Seniors Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Madison Leitch, Kari Tomeny juniors Shannon McCann, Saydee McQuay, freshmen Christine Habjan, and Arianna Lee all were recognized for their efforts for their efforts on and off the water. It marked the second straight season that Fitzpatrick and Tomeny earned All-ACC Academic honors, as well.
To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the spring semester and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA at their respective schools.
Without a doubt, the 2016 season was a memorable one for the Syracuse women's rowing program. The team defeated Harvard for the first time since 2001, recorded its best finish as a league member at the ACC Championship, and earned its second trip as a team to the NCAA Championship.
The future is certainly bright for the Orange program. 18 of the 23 total student-athletes that competed at the 2016 NCAA Championship will return for the 2017 campaign.
