RIO DE JANEIRO – Natalie Mastracci '13 and the Canadian women's coxed eight crew placed first in its repêchage at the 2016 Olympic Games on Thursday morning.
The former Syracuse University women's rower and her teammates finished in 6:28.07, defeating their closest opponent by more than five seconds. With the victory, Canada advances to Saturday morning's final and a chance at the Olympic gold medal. The race will begin at 10:04 a.m. EST.
For the second straight Olympic Games, Mastracci will have an opportunity to earn a medal. The Thorold, Ontario native took home a silver medal with the Canadian coxed eight boat at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
In her collegiate career at Syracuse, Mastracci was as a four-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Region honoree and a two-time CRCA First Team All-American. She competed for the Orange from 2007-10 before training full-time with the Canadian national team. Mastracci returned for her final season of eligibility in 2012.
