Less than two seconds away from third-place Romania
RIO DE JANEIRO – Former Syracuse University women's rower Natalie Mastracci '13 and the Canadian coxed eight crew finished in fifth place at the 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday morning.
The Canadian boat covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:06.04, less than two seconds behind the third-place Romanian crew. The United States boat took home the gold medal, finishing with a time of 6:01.49.
For Mastracci, it marked the second time the Thorold, Ontario native had competed at the Olympic Games. She finished in second place with the Canadian coxed eight boat at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
In her collegiate career at Syracuse, Mastracci was as a four-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Region honoree and a two-time CRCA First Team All-American. She competed for the Orange from 2007-10 before training full-time with the Canadian national team. Mastracci returned for her final season of eligibility in 2012.
