Orange Have Third Straight NCAA Championship Invite in Focus

In a quest for its third straight NCAA Championship appearance, a strong fall focus continues to help the Syracuse women's rowing team increase its status as a national contender.
The Orange recorded the top four times at the 2017 Collegiate Small Boat Challenge to open up the fall schedule. Last weekend at the Head of the Charles, all three boats that competed finished in the top five, collegiately.     Â
"I think the results make a very big statement about how well prepared this group is to compete on a national stage," said head coach Justin Moore.
After a 13th place finish at the NCAA Championship in 2017, a strong team mentality continues to help the Orange improve.
"I think there has been a real commitment to adhering to the standards that the coaching staff has been setting," said Moore. "If we are going to beat our top competitors, then we need to follow these standards. The team has really embraced that."
"The quality of the team from top-to-bottom this year has really stood out. The depth of this team is impressive to me."
Bridget Kelly is a walk-on that has worked hard for four years and now anchors the middle of the club eight. Isabelle Rodgers went from not racing her freshman year, and being a spare, to becoming an integral part of the club eight.
Syracuse posted successful times at the Head of the Charles without two key student-athletes that will impact its NCAA prospects. Madeleine Holzman-Klima and Haley Jones were unable to attend the world's largest two-day regatta.
The Orange have experienced success thus far in the fall competition, but they are not satisfied yet.
"Our club eight was very disappointed to finish fifth and I think that's a wonderful sign," said Moore. "They went into that race out of the number two slot believing that they could win. Five years ago, that was not the case. Five years ago, we would have been ecstatic to finish fifth and now the women were a little dissatisfied."
Syracuse concludes its fall schedule at Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 4. Â Â Â Â
