Syracuse Women Finish Sixth at the Nike Cup Swimming Championships, Men Place Seventh

In Saturday's finals action, senior Josko Vucetic (Split, Croatia) took third place in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:48.28. On Friday, Vucetic was third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.89. Also on Saturday, freshman Annie Tudryn (Springfield, MA) broke her own Syracuse school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.33. She captured third place in the event at the Nike Cup behind two swimmers from UNC. On Oct. 28, Tudryn first set a new school standard in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:18.78 against Pittsburgh.
Other outstanding individual performances were turned in by junior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) and senior Eleanor Thoet (Bath, ME). On Saturday night, Filipovic, the 2000 BIG EAST butterfly champion, was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51.22. Thoet captured fourth place in the 50 freestyle on Nov. 16 with a season-best time of 23.88. On Saturday night, she posted a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.08.
SU's swimming and diving teams will next be in action on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at Massachusetts.
