Senior co-captain Morlon Greenwood (Freeport, NY) has been named a candidate for the 2000 Butkus Award. The award honors the top linebacker in Division I-A.

Greenwood has made 37 consecutive starts at Syracuse and was third on the team last season with 91 tackles, including a career-high 11 stops against Tulane. Greenwood was listed as the 15th-best outside linebacker in the country by Lindy's in its preseason magazine. He is one of four BIG EAST representatives on the list, joined by Miami's Dan Morgan and Temple's Taylor Suman and LeVar Talley.

The 70-player Butkus Award Watch List will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalists on October 19. Three finalists will be announced on November 9. The Butkus Award Gala will be on December 8 at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, FL.

Syracuse opens its 2000 season September 2 against the University at Buffalo. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
