
Orange Track & Field Competes at Penn State

The Orangemen field events squad had three student-athletes make themselves eligible for championship action. Sophomore Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ontario) finished second in the shot put with a IC4A qualifying, and personal best, throw of 52' 9.5". Bedard also finished sixth in the weight throw with a throw of 51' 7".
Sophomore Tim Adrian (Moorpark, CA) set personal bests in two events. Adrian qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the shot put with a throw of 52' 0.5", finishing third. All three Syracuse shot putters (Bedard, Adrian and Alex Brown) are now qualified for the conference meet. Adrian finished fifth in the weight throw with a heave of 51' 11.75".
Sophomore Joel Carusone (Slingerland, NY) finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 14' 9". Carusone is now eligible for the BIG EAST meet where he finished second in 2000. Sophomore Richard Polidore (Chino, CA) reached both the BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying standards in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.13 in his first race of the season.
Four competitors on the women's side qualified for championship competition. Sophomore Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.67), hitting the BIG EAST qualifying time. Culley also finished fifth in the 200-meters in 25.22 seconds.
Sophomore Aleccia Boland (London, Ontario) is now eligible for BIG EAST competition in the mile after running a 5:19.75 on Saturday. Boland shaved 16 seconds off her time from the first meet of the season last Sunday. Senior Alicia Crowd (Greenwich, NY) qualified for the conference and ECAC indoor meets in the 500 meters with a time of 1:15.77. Senior Opal Jones (Capitol Heights, MD) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82, reaching the BIG EAST standard.
Junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, VA) captured the Orange's only victory of the day. Watkins was victorious in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 38' 5".
Syracuse will next compete on January 19-20 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, VA.
