Both teams entered the match with a strong desire to win. Syracuse was looking to avenge the loss to the Pirates that snapped a 19-game winning streak last season, while Seton Hall looked to reverse the doom that lurked in their 1-4 record against ranked opponents this season.
The Pirates, who had lost three of their previous four games, started out strong against the 8th-ranked Orangemen leading 32-23 at the intermission.
The momentum continued for Seton Hall as it began the second half on a 12-2 run for a 19-point lead just three minutes into the second half.
But the Orangemen did not lay down. Williams hit a jumper to set off a run that would tally 12 SU points over the next two and a half minutes bringing Syracuse to its smallest deficit of the second half before Eddie Griffin set off yet another run for the Pirates that would ultimately claim the 77-65 victory.
Allen Griffin led the Orange attack knocking-down a career-high 20 points for the fourth time this season.
