
Orangewomen Volleyball Ready For Binghamton

The Orangewomen (6-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) split their BIG EAST matches last weekend, losing to Georgetown, 3-1, and then defeating Virginia Tech, 3-0. Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) led the offense with 22 kills for the combined two matches, including a match-high 12 kills versus Virginia Tech. Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) had eight kills on 16 attempts with two errors for a .375 hitting percentage against the Hokies. She also had a career-high five solo blocks. Syracuse outblocked Virginia Tech, 11-4. Against its opponents, Syracuse holds a 104.5 to 82 advantage in team blocks. Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) served up three aces in each of the two matches last weekend, and Christen Casey’s (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) jump serve led to two aces versus Virginia Tech.
Koster leads the Orangwomen in kills (146), hitting percentage (.309), service aces (12) and blocks (46). Among BIG EAST Conference leaders, Koster is seventh in hitting percentage, sixth in blocks and 10th in kills. Carroll is ninth in the conference in assists per game with 9.76. Koster, Van Mater, Casey and Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) have played in all 42 games for Syracuse this season.
Binghamton is 3-9 in its first season of Division I play. The Bearcats will play an independent schedule this year but joins the America East Conference next year. BU is on a two-match losing streak with losses last weekend to Iona and Harvard. Michele Heck led the offense with a combined 37 kills in the two matches and leads the team in total kills (163) and digs (151).
SU holds an 8-2 advantage in the series and has not played the Bearcats since the 1980 season when the Orangewomen secured a victory.
