Orangemen's Club Eight Earns Invitation to 2002 Charles

BOSTON — The Syracuse men's crew team's club eight boat finished 17th at the Head of the Charles, the world's largest regatta, in Boston, on Saturday, October 20.
The Orange boat, coxed by Carl Lyman (Berkeley, MA/ Tabor Academy) finished in 16:01.20. Since the finish is within five percent of Harvard's winning time of 15:19.27, Syracuse has earned an automatic entry into next year's club eight race at the Head of the Charles. Pat Mahardy (Liverpool, NY/ Liverpool) was the seven seat and Matt O'Neill (Liverpool, NY/ Liverpool) was the stroke for the Orangemen.
There were 63 crews, 11 from overseas, entered in the club eight race. On Sunday, SU races in the championship eight, championship four and youth four.
