Junior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) was named the BIG EAST co-Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors. It marked the fourth-consecutive week that Syracuse has had a player win this type of award from the conference.
For Aronowicz, this marked the second time this season that she was named co-offensive player of the week. She scored her second hat trick in as many weeks to lead SU to a 6-2 victory against Quinnipiac. The first goal put the Orangewomen on the board after they fell to a 2-0 deficit. Her second goal of the afternoon proved to be the game-winner. It was the third three-goal game of her career. The performance moved Aronowicz into 10th on SU's all-time scoring list with 67 career points (29 goals, nine assists).
Aronowicz leads the Orangewomen in scoring with 28 points. She is tied for the league lead in goals with 13.
Wagner enjoyed a week of firsts. It is the first time she has ever earned a weekly award from the BIG EAST. Wagner made her first two career starts in goal last week and led Syracuse to a 2-0 record. In a 1-0 conference win at Providence, the sophomore faced 18 shots and 20 penalty corners, made nine saves and recorded her first shutout. She also made five saves in a 6-2 victory against Quinnipiac.
Syracuse has won 10-straight games, the most consecutive wins since the 1991 Orangewomen tied a school record with 12 victories in a row.
The No. 19-ranked Orangewomen own a 12-2 record, 4-0 mark in the BIG EAST heading into their final two regular-season contests. On Tuesday, Oct. 23, SU plays at No. 15-ranked Penn State . On Sunday, Oct. 28, the team returns home, where it is 8-0 this season, to face Connecticut. The Huskies will be playing for a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament. Syracuse has already clinched at least a tie for the conference regular-season title. A win against Connecticut will give the Orangewomen the crown outright.
